Business Technology Strategist
(vCIO)

The Position:

Executive-facing technology planning and leadership for client organizations Southern Manitoba | Full-time | Some local travel

Simplify technology, reduce risk, and help senior leaders make confident decisions that stick.

You’re the person leaders call when the question is “What should we do next?” not “Can you fix this?”

You connect business goals to technology decisions. You hate unnecessary complexity, duplicate tools, and slow processes. You care about outcomes: higher productivity, lower risk, fewer surprises, and a plan that gets executed.

SolutionsIT is hiring a Business Technology Strategist to lead technology planning for a set of client organizations. You work directly with owners and senior leadership teams, turn goals into clear roadmaps and budgets, and drive execution through our service teams, project teams, and vendors.

From the client’s perspective, you are their technology planning lead. Inside our company, you lead through influence, clarity, and follow-through.

This is not tech support and not a sales role.

The Outcomes You're Responsible For

· Clients understand their technology plan and trust it

· Owners and senior leaders make decisions with clarity, not guesswork

· Technology becomes simpler and more consistent over time

· Risk goes down (security, continuity, audit readiness) while productivity goes up

· The roadmap gets executed, not just discussed

When clients invest in improvements, it’s because your business case is clear and tied to outcomes. That investment is a byproduct of trust and clarity, not pushing.

What Your Week Looks Like
Core Qualifications:
What You'll Do

· Build trusted relationships with owners, CEOs, and senior leadership teams

· Create and maintain 12–36 month roadmaps and lifecycle budgets

· Translate technology risk into plain language and real business impact

· Bring governance thinking in a practical way: controls, audit readiness, maturity, and “what good looks like” without bureaucracy

· Reduce complexity through standardization and simplification

· Coordinate execution through our internal teams, vendors, and sometimes the client’s internal IT team

· Write decision-ready business cases that link recommendations to productivity gains and reduced risk

· Document decisions and next steps clearly so plans turn into results

What This Role Is not

· Not tech support. You will not take tickets or be an escalation point.

· Not sales. No quota, no closing tactics. You recommend investments when justified and help leaders decide.

· Not “strategy only.” If you like planning but avoid follow-through, this won’t be a fit.

Who We're Looking For

You will do well here if you:

· Are credible with senior leaders and can guide decisions calmly

· Write clearly and take pride in clean, board-ready communication

· Like standards and consistency because they create predictable outcomes

· Influence without formal authority and still get things done

· Understand governance at an executive level (risk, controls, audit readiness, service management concepts) and can explain what it means in real life

This role can be a great fit for someone who has been in governance, audit, compliance, or risk work and is tired of reporting that never leads to change. If you want to build a real plan and see it through, you’ll like this seat.

Bonus if you have:

· Experience in IT leadership, consulting, managed IT, operations, or client-facing strategy roles

· Experience coordinating teams and vendors to deliver outcomes

· Experience building budgets, roadmaps, and lifecycle plans

High-potential early-career candidates (including business grads): If you’re early in your career but you write exceptionally well, show strong judgment, and can carry yourself professionally with senior leaders, we’re open to training the right person. This is a client-facing leadership track, not a typical entry-level job.
